Boko Haram Releases Kidnapped School Girls
May 8th, 2017
We begin our blog series on a happy note with what was buzzing, earlier this month, in Nigeria!
The Associated Press, The New York Times and other news agencies indicate that Boko Haram, the militants who kidnapped dozens of the nearly 300 schoolgirls in the Nigerian village of Chibok over three years ago, have released 82 of them as part of an exchange for detained suspects from the militant group.
The Nigerian government, after lengthy negotiations, credited the government of Switzerland, the International Committee of the Red Cross, local and international nongovernmental organizations, the military and security agencies with facilitating the exchange.
The girls arrived in Abuja, the capital, on Sunday (5-7-17) and met with the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

We Celebrated Mother's Day!
We cannot let the Month of May end without referencing Mother's Day!
On Sunday, May 14th, Hundreds of us gathered at the Blessed Sacrament/St. Charles Borromeo Church in Newark, for the Igbo Catholic Community celebration of Mother's Day! This special event is recognized every year by the Igbos in and around Newark, NJ.
Each such event begins with an Igbo Mass at 12:30 p.m. This is followed by reception down in the Church's Basement, where the husbands and fathers serve the mothers hearty Nigerian cuisine lunch

So, we gathered collectively and in small groups to catch up with events and activities as we celebrated Mother's Day!

Father's Day 2017 is Next
On Sunday, June 18, 2017, it was payback day by the Mothers to the Fathers! That Father's Day, it was the Mothers who served the fathers everywhere. Mothers chuckled because they don't need a special day to serve fathers.............Oh well
Of course, Cecilia's Gourmet Chin Chin was almost all of the menu!
